Write, find and restore a note

Keep a plain quick note, find its text and restore a removed note from Recently Deleted.

Development edition guide. Updated 13 October 2026.

Write a quick note

  1. Open Notes and choose New Note.
  2. Write your text. ExplorePaste saves the note locally as you edit.
  3. Use the note’s share action when you choose to send its text to another app.
Notes are plain text, suited to a meeting reminder, working draft or reusable reply.

Find a note

Search Notes for its text, or open Search All to include clip text and file names. Choosing a result opens the existing note. Only active items appear in search.

Choose iCloud

With iCloud enabled, notes use your private Apple account. Email sign-in is a separate choice and is not required for this. A note saved locally remains usable when the network is unavailable. Check the iCloud status before relying on another device having the latest edit.

Restore a removed note

  1. Open Recently Deleted from Notes or Files.
  2. Choose the note and restore it within 30 days.
  3. Return to Notes to open the restored item.
Permanent removal cannot be undone. Recently Deleted applies to notes and file copies, not clips.
